It is therefore important to fully understand each one before you make a decision. This is a quick overview of the benefits and drawbacks embedded telematics has for your car.

CarPlay

Apple CarPlay allows iPhone owners to access their iPhone apps through their car's dashboard. These apps allow users to make phone calls, send text messages, access navigation, audio entertainment, manage calendars, and much more without touching the phone. CarPlay functions similarly to Google’s Android Auto system and allows users to access iPhone functions using the car’s infotainment. CarPlay is able to control iPhone functions by using voice commands.

Android Auto

Android Auto may be the best way to link your smartphone to your vehicle. This app allows you to connect your phone to your car's multimedia touchscreen display. FAQ

What is the length of an apprenticeship as an automotive mechanic?

It takes approximately three years to complete an automotive mechanic apprenticeship. This includes two years at school and two years working as an apprentice. The first year of training is spent in the trade. This includes theory and practical skills as well as safety procedures. You'll also learn the safe and efficient use of tools during this first year. You'll spend the second year in on-the-job training, where you will gain experience in various trades. These periods will also give you the chance to take formal courses.

The final year is dedicated to earning certifications and qualifications in the field. These include NVQs. They are awarded after passing exams on specific topics within the industry. You can also get HNCs (Higher National Certificates), that cover subjects such as customer service, business administration, management, and business administration. City & Guilds certificates may be available for those who are interested in becoming qualified in specific trades.

Is it important which college I go?

It's not true. In terms of getting into the auto industry, there is no distinction between colleges. Some schools have better programs than others, so you might want to look elsewhere if your goal is something more specialized.

To work as an automotive mechanic, do I need a degree? Can I do part-time studies?

While a degree is not required, it does help. Employers will prefer candidates who have completed a degree. This shows you have put in the work and achieved success.

However, it doesn't mean you can't still work while studying. Many universities permit students to take courses during the summer holidays, and then finish their studies in the fall. Some universities allow students to take part-time classes throughout the year.

What are the different types of jobs available in car mechanic?

There are three main areas of employment for car mechanics:

  • Automotive repair shops
  • Dealerships
  • Independent garages

Automotive repair shops

This is where most people consider becoming a mechanic. In fact, it's probably the easiest way to get started. Either you can work in a shop that is owned by another person or start your own business.

If you decide to work at a shop, you'll need to apply to join a union. Once you have been accepted into the Union, you'll be given training by the union.

Once the training is completed, you can start working.

Register with the government if you want to open your garage. After you register, you will be required to meet specific standards.

After you have registered, you will be issued a license to operate your garage.

Your license will permit you to sell spares parts and perform minor repairs. It will not permit you to fix major engine issues.

As well as selling spare parts you will need to offer advice and direction to customers.

Dealership jobs

Most dealerships employ mechanics who specialize in one area of the car. For instance, they may only be qualified to fix brakes or change tires.

Some dealerships hire general mechanics to handle all aspects of car repair.

These positions often require applicants to undergo specific training before being allowed to work. This allows employers to pick the right candidates for their jobs.

Some dealerships will hire graduates straight from college. These graduates already have a basic understanding of mechanical engineering, so they are able to learn all about cars.

Independent garages

Independent garages are not associated with any one dealership. They tend to be focused on high-quality service.

Independent garages have the ability to afford higher wages, as they aren’t associated with any one company. These jobs generally pay better than those at dealerships.

But this doesn't mean that independent garages are necessarily better places to work. Many owners prefer to run their businesses themselves rather than delegate responsibility to employees.

You may find yourself working for long hours and not having control over the day.

It is also possible to expect lower wages than you would if working at a dealer.

The good news? You can easily switch between different types of jobs. If you want to work at a dealership, then you simply need to ask your current employer if he would consider hiring you as a mechanic instead.

Or, if your dream is to work for an independent garage you can contact the owner directly.

It's not always easy to find a job. Many other factors can also influence the amount you earn.

This could include the type of vehicle that you are working on and whether or not you charge an additional for labor.

What is the best career for an automotive mechanic?

For those who are passionate about excellence, automotive is a rewarding industry. It is important to work hard and learn as much from others as you can in order to succeed in this industry.

Excellent communication skills are essential as you will spend most of the time speaking to customers or other employees. It's important to be flexible and willing to travel. This will make commutes difficult.

Consider taking classes at local universities or community colleges if your goal is to pursue a career in the automotive industry. Many schools offer programs specifically designed for students interested in auto repair, sales, or customer service.

Mechanical engineering is a good choice if you are interested in pursuing a degree. It is possible to earn a bachelor’s degree in only four years.

In addition, many companies will hire graduates straight out of school. You should start looking for employment as soon as you are able to continue your studies part-time.

After you've finished your education, it's likely that you'll need to go through some training before you can be hired as an auto technician.

This means you'll need to pass exams such as the Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification exam. This exam covers topics such as engine maintenance, brakes and suspension.

Once you've passed the ASE test, you can apply for a license issued by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence.

You can perform repairs on private cars by obtaining a license. You'll get compensation based on the amount of services you perform.

Not all states require licensing. If you intend to work in another state, however, you will need a license.

Some states do not issue licenses until they have received a certain amount or training. This could be you.

Is it possible to work as an automotive mechanic?

Yes, it can be very easy. Many garages list their vacancies online. Many people simply apply for the fun of it. You can apply for several places to see if they are accepting student applications if you want to get your foot in their door. Alternatively, you could ask friends and family if they know anyone who works in the industry. They might be happy to recommend someone.

How To

How to become an automotive technician

An automotive technician is responsible for vehicle maintenance and repair. He/she works at automotive shops, garages or service centers. He/she helps customers fix their cars, trucks, motorcycles, ATVs, boats, lawn mowers, snowmobiles, tractors, trailers, farm equipment, planes, helicopters, jet skis, watercraft, bicycles, motorcycles, scooters, golf carts, etc. A technician in automotive must be able diagnose and repair problems quickly, safely, accurately, efficiently, and effectively.

A person who wants to work as an automotive technician should first obtain an associate degree from a vocational school. After completing this program, he/she must pass the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification exam. ASE stands as American Society of Mechanical Engineers. There are two parts to the ASE certification exam. The first section tests your mechanical skills, while the second tests your practical knowledge. To pass the test, you will need to visit an authorized testing location. You can find these locations online or through your local automobile dealer.

A candidate must pass the state exam after passing the test to become an automotive technician. It varies depending on the location of the applicant. Some states require candidates to complete a training program, while others let them study on their own. Some states issue licenses to technicians as soon as they get their license. Others wait until they have worked at least six months as an automotive technician.

To get started as an automotive technician, a person should apply to a local automotive dealership. Most new employees work as apprentices after they have been hired. Apprenticeship programs typically last three to four years. Students learn basic repair skills such as changing oil and adjusting brakes, changing tires, cleaning spark plugs and inspecting engine compartments. Some students learn how to do advanced repairs, such as installing air filters, replacing shocks, repairing engines, and replacing transmission fluids. Schools offer classes during business hours. Some schools offer evening classes, however.

After completing an apprenticeship, a student becomes a journeyman. Journeymen generally spend four- to five decades learning how to fix major systems like transmissions. They also learn to perform complex repairs, such as remanufacturing engines, rebuilding transmissions, and troubleshooting electrical components. Employers prefer to hire journeymen as they are familiar with the job and can anticipate customer needs.

After passing the exams, candidates may be eligible to open their own shop if they pass all requirements. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, nearly 1.7 million automotive mechanic jobs were available in 2010. The Bureau of Labor Statistics predicted that this number would rise by 18% from 2009 to 2020. The candidate should expect to invest thousands of money in equipment and supplies if he/she decides to start his/her shop.

The salary for an automotive technician depends on several factors, including the type of employer, location, education level, and experience. On average, an unemployed person could earn $20,000 annually. A high school diploma is all that's required to earn approximately $21,000 annually. Earnings for those with an associate's diploma are approximately $24,000/year. Technicians with a bachelor’s degree made about $27,000 annually. The average annual salary for those with master's degrees was $32,000. Salary increases can be common. A professional who earns less that $30,000 today could reasonably expect a $40,000 increase in the next few decades.
