When to drop collision insurance

When should you drop collision insurance You might be looking to replace your older vehicle and save on your collision insurance premiums. While it may seem sensible to cancel collision insurance, you might not be sure if it's the right thing for you or your vehicle. Talk to your agent about the best move for you. Collision insurance protects your car from damages, so you don't want to skimp on this coverage. These are the top reasons to make sure you have collision coverage on your car.

10% rule

If you're planning to drop collision insurance, there are several reasons to consider. You'll save money long term. Depending on how much your car is worth, a 10% discount could save you hundreds of dollars each year. This is because most collision premiums don't exceed 10% of your vehicle's current market value. If your car is worth $400 it's not worth paying more that $350 per year for comprehensive and collision insurance premiums.

Your tolerance of risk

Consider your tolerance for risks before you decide to get rid of collision insurance. Do you feel comfortable with the idea of losing everything? Are you worried about getting hit by a deer or ice? Or, do you have a long timeline to reach your goals? These questions will help to make the best decision. Also, consider your financial capacity to handle the possibility of a collision with a car. This decision will be based on your personal risk tolerance, as well the car's worth.

The age of your car

Which factors determine when you should drop collision insurance? In years past you might have relied only on mileage and your age to make this determination. Some cars are still worth their value so it might be worthwhile to pay for collision insurance even if they have been disposed of. A $10,000 car, which is 10+ years old, is likely to be worth the cost of collision insurance even though you don't drive it very often.

Your annual premiums

The amount you pay every year to your collision and comprehensive insurance policy will vary based on the type of coverage you choose. Most insurance companies use your credit history and prior accidents to determine your premiums. You should check your credit report for accuracy. Your credit score can be affected if you have had bankruptcy proceedings, judgments, liens, late payments, or are in default. You may also see an increase in premiums if your credit score is low due to multiple credit inquiries.

Your deductible

When should you stop collision insurance? The 10% rule isn't set in stone. The deductible and the car's overall value decrease over time. A high price for collision coverage means that you are not paying enough for the risk you are taking. If you don't have a vehicle loan or lease, it is worth considering dropping collision insurance.

How to Become an Auto Technician

A technician who works on vehicles is an automotive technician. He/she works at automotive shops, garages or service centers. Customers can rely on him/her to fix their cars, trucks and motorcycles. An automotive technician must be capable of diagnosing problems and making repairs safely, accurately and efficiently.

To become an automotive technician, a person must first earn an associate's degree from a vocational college. After completing this program, he/she must pass the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification exam. ASE stands in for American Society of Mechanical Engineers. There are two parts to the ASE certification exam. The first section tests the ability to use mechanical knowledge. The second section tests the ability to apply practical skills. You will need to attend an authorized testing site in order to pass the test. These testing sites can be found online and through your local dealer.

After passing the exam, a candidate must take a state exam before being licensed as an automobile technician. This process varies depending on where the applicant lives. Some states require that applicants attend a training class, while others allow them freedom to study at their own pace. Some states permit technicians to work immediately after they are granted their license. Others require them to wait at least six consecutive months before they can be licensed.

A person must apply to an auto dealership in order to get started as an automobile technician. New employees are usually apprentices when they first get hired. Apprenticeships last for three years. A student will learn to repair basic things like changing oil, adjusting brakes or replacing tires. They also learn how spark plugs are cleaned and inspect engine compartments. Some students are taught how to repair engines and replace transmission fluids. Most schools offer classes during regular business hours. Some schools also offer evening classes, if necessary.

Once a student finishes his/her apprenticeship, it is possible to become a Journeyman. Journeymen typically spend four to five years learning how to install major systems, such as transmissions, differentials, steering gear, suspensions, and drive shafts. Journeymen also learn to fix complicated problems, such as rebuilding engines or troubleshooting electric components. Because they have a good understanding of the job and what customers expect, many employers prefer to hire journeymen.

Once a candidate passes the required exams and is granted a license, they might consider opening their own shop. According to Bureau of Labor Statistics (2010), almost 1.7million automotive mechanic jobs were on the market. This number was expected increase 18% between 2009 - 2020. The candidate should expect to invest thousands of money in equipment and supplies if he/she decides to start his/her shop.

The salary for an automotive technician depends on several factors, including the type of employer, location, education level, and experience. On average, an unemployed person could earn $20,000 annually. Someone with only a high school diploma could earn around $21,000 per year. Earnings for those with an associate's diploma are approximately $24,000/year. Technicians with bachelor's degrees earn approximately $27,000 per year. And those with master's degrees made around $32,000 per year. Salaries are increasing so that a professional earning less than $30,000 could expect to make $40,000 in a few years.
